Spanish adventure #3 & #4!

Spanish adventure #3 - making friends

Boating life is a social life. New neighbours means anchor drams and sharing of stories and experiences. Most of the people we meet are also on their way to the caribbean in some way or another, and they always seem to be wonderful people! I've made friends from Norway, Finland and Spain in this port alone, and we will probably never meet again. It is a very strange thing to get used to. I've also started missing the people at home and I'm slowly realizing that I will be offshore for a very long time.

My favourite friend among these folks is Josef Emanuel - the local keyboardist. He plays with his nails and only knows three songs. After buying his friendship with bread and juice, he promised me that he would play for me if I ever came back. So the next evening I spent two hours sitting on the ground in the most crowded street of La Coruna, listening to "Casa Blanca" and "Piano Man" and getting unpleasant glances from rich, ol' women probably saying something like "what are you doing with your life, little girl?". Then I bought him dinner, and once again hoped people would notice that people you pass by on the streets really live a life on their own. "Out of sight out of mind" is a very simple state of fooling oneself.

Spanish adventure #4 - estrella

Estrella, in addition to being the largest beer brand in Spain, also translate to the english word "star", something a lot more fascinating.

The map told me a giant park would be situated "under" the city, so I went there to read my book. Walking normally would of course be too boring, so I decided to practice being a blind person. I mean, what if I suddenly turn blind? And wouldn't it be cool to navigate through a city based on smells and sounds? It didn't really work that well, regarding I have no sonar system in my ears or anything like that. The result was, again, unpleasant glances and great fun. Probably my favourite combination.

Enjoying the park I suddenly noticed a circle shaped, really fancy tower. I remember thinking "ooh, so this is the adventure I'm supposed to have today. Finally!"
So what was inside?
A science action park! I got to play and learn all about the cool little things that fools people into studying phsyics (including my future self). I ended up staring at a real life hatching process of actual chicks for who-knows-how-long and then running around going crazy for all the cool models. On fifth floor was a man guarding a door and I asked him what it was. "Uno planetario." Was there a possibility that I could..? "Sorry, only espanol." But maybe I could watch the stars..? "Tickets on ground floor." Fine. Two euros and a cardio workout later, I found myself sitting in a giant planetarium, listening to a spanish lecture on stars and crying of happiness. Day well spent.

The remaining days I spent on purposely getting lost in the city, parks and various unknown tourist attractions. Oh, what a wonderful life.

Local flower festival!

Typical spanish cemetery.

The view I found myself enjoying the most...

World's oldest lighthouse still in use! Hercules tower.

Culinaric feast with alcohol-free wine and marvellous cooking, if I must say!

An entire park of roses. Amazing.

Welcome-to-the-south promenade.
